The Unique Sheets Counting Technology

The Unique Sheets Counting Technology

ADR32 Technology is the counting technology designed by B.MATIC for the most important manufacturers of paper money, security documents and banknotes. For more than 38 years, B.MATIC has been dealing with sheet counting machines, counters and feeders for automatic production lines, to date we count more than 7,000 machines sold worldwide.

The counting mechanism of the ADR32 technology is done physically by moving and lifting the sheets one by one with a pair of ‘Twin Counting Plates’.

Key Features

  • Counting sheets or flat materials of paper, cardboard and plastic from 40 to 800 GSM depending on the model
  • Maximum speed up to 3,000 sheets/min.
  • Separation Tabs System in order to divide the bundle and facilitate following production steps.
  • The process is fast but gentle on the sheets, which are not scratched, damaged or deformed in the counting corner area.
  • The rotary motion of the blades is large and the system robust: this enables counting even of high sheet weights and thicknesses.

Comparison with other Sheets Counting technologies

The comparison between technologies is an important element in evaluating an accurate purchase, therefore we have provided a list of key features of our technology respect to other ones. Basically, there are 3 technologies on the market:

  • The oldest is the Pin & Blade technology
  • The second is the one we invented ADR32 (derivative of our Dual System invented in 1993)
  • Third the Disc system.

Unique Features

  1. Anti-Curling Technology: The planar movement from top to bottom of the double vacuum blades solved the problem of the Pin and Blade system, which bends corners due to the Pin rotating like a satellite around the Blade.
  2. Anti-Scratch Technology: The ADR32 technology counts vertically by moving each sheets with gentle vacuum blades, while instead the Disk which using a horizontal helical movement creeps sideways for a few centimetres, crawling over the surface of the sheets. This sliding can cause scratches, especially in the presence of fresh print and plastic sheets.
  3. Quick adjustment: With the ADR32 Easy Clips system, counting plates can be replaced in seconds without unscrewing screws and without using spanners or allen keys. With Pin & Blade technologies, maintenance is more complex and time-consuming and with the Disk System it requires trained personnel with much more time and expensive spare parts.

ADR32 vs “Pin & Blade” System

  • No corner bending:the Anti-Curling technology ADR32 solved Pin&Blade big issue explained before.
  • Non-staining: ADR32 sheets counting technology has greatly reduced the problem of ink transfer always caused by the pin.
  • Doesn’t press on the paper: ADR32 Motorised levelling system controls the counting head’s position in order to gently sustain the sheets without pressing on them from start to finish. In contrast, the Pin & Blade system lifts the ream from the bottom using the counting paddle resulting in pressure and friction on the sheets.
  • Fast: Compared to machines Pin& Blade i among the fastests in the world, up to 3,000 sheets/min .
  • Versatile: The ADR32 system is the only machine that can count up to 800GSM with minimal reduction in maximum speed. The Pin and Blade system goes up to a maximum of 255GSM.
  • Ribbon saving system: The flags of the pack splitting system are red and 6 cm long with a minimum thickness to ensure visibility and a maximum of twice the life of the reels compared to the competition.
  • Ducts do not clog: The dust in the sheets tends to foul the filters and clog the ducts. To avoid this problem, the suction ducts we use are double (they have twice the surface area of the section) compared to other systems, reducing maintenance.

ADR32 vs Disk Sheets Counting Technology

  • Does not scratch or crease the paper: the Anti-Scratch Technology avoids ink and friction application on the paper reams, as exlained before.
  • No need for daily cleaning: ADR32 sheets counting technology does not accumulate ink on the pallets as opposed to the Disk system, which rubbing forces even daily cleaning.
  • Detection of folded edges: In security printing, the ADR32 Twin Head, found in the Protec ADR32 TH2, counts both corners to detect bent and damaged edges unlike some disk systems that count on the edge.
  • Fast: The ADR32 counts up to 3000 sheets/min and thanks to its short start-up time each cycle is below 1 min, there is no match for the disc system. Theoretically the Disk peak speed is higher, but compared to the count cycle times, the real productivity is practically identical.
  • Expensive Spare parts: ADR32 avoids accidental damage thanks to a system of sensors and photocells during both counting and maintenance. Disks in the Disk system are at risk of tear, damage and falling during maintenance, costing thousands of euros.
  • Versatile: The ADR32 system is the only machine that can count cardboard and plastic up to 800GSM with minimal slowdown. The Disc system can count up to a maximum of 450GSM.
  • Ducts don’t clog : Larger suction ducts last longer and require less maintenance.
